Model United Nations is more than a platform for debating global issues. It is a journey of developing compassionate leaders who understand that meaningful change begins with empathy and service. Reflecting this vision, SAIMUN 2026 organised a heartwarming community outreach programme at Sahaya Old Age Home, bringing together international delegates, members of the SAI Interact Club, and the Going Global Club for an enriching experience of intergenerational bonding and social responsibility.

The visit began with warm interactions between the delegates, students, and the elderly residents, creating an atmosphere filled with genuine conversations, shared stories, and heartfelt smiles. What started as a simple exchange soon blossomed into meaningful connections that transcended age, language, and cultural boundaries.

Music soon became the universal language of the day as the residents enthusiastically sang their favourite songs, filling the home with joy and nostalgia. In return, the international delegates presented captivating solo and group performances, transforming the gathering into a vibrant celebration of cultures. The infectious energy of the performances encouraged several residents to join in with dance, creating unforgettable moments of happiness that resonated with everyone present.

One of the most touching highlights of the visit was the "Tree of Wishes" initiative. With the support of international delegates and student volunteers, the residents penned down their heartfelt wishes on specially designed cards, which were then placed on a beautifully handcrafted tree created by the students. More than an artistic installation, the Tree of Wishes became a symbol of hope, care, and the promise that these wishes will be fulfilled in the coming days through continued acts of compassion.

Demonstrating the spirit of selfless service, members of the SAI Interact Club raised funds to donate physiotherapy tools to support the health and well-being of the residents. The team also presented indoor recreational games, including Ludo and Carrom, along with essential grocery items, bringing both comfort and moments of recreation to the community.

Reinforcing the message of environmental stewardship, the outreach programme concluded with a plantation drive in the garden of the old age home. International delegates, students, and faculty members planted papaya, clove, and sandalwood saplings, leaving behind a living legacy of sustainability, hope, and shared responsibility. The saplings will continue to grow as enduring reminders of the bonds formed during this memorable visit.

The community outreach programme beautifully embodied the values at the heart of SAIMUN 2026. While delegates spent the day addressing global challenges within committee rooms, they also discovered that diplomacy is equally about listening with empathy, serving communities, and building relationships that inspire positive change.
